About the position

S&B USA Construction is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team in Pittsburgh, PA. This position is integral to our operations, responsible for administering payroll-related activities that include payroll processing, time and attendance tracking, tax payments, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The Payroll Specialist will work under the supervision of the Payroll Manager and will play a key role in ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and on time, while adhering to established departmental policies and wage regulations. The Payroll Specialist will prepare, audit, and process weekly payrolls, ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations, including those set forth by bargaining units. This role will also involve recommending new processes to enhance performance and efficiency within the payroll department. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing special payments such as bonuses, retroactive payments, severance, and benefit time payouts. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will reconcile and post deduction and benefit files for general ledger accounts, update employee payroll records for voluntary deductions, and participate in quarterly and year-end reconciliation and processing. To excel in this role, the Payroll Specialist must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of payroll-related rules and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, and will maintain confidentiality in all payroll matters. Experience in the construction industry and familiarity with union payroll processes are preferred, as is experience with Viewpoint by VISTA ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, audit, and process weekly payrolls by established deadlines and according to established departmental and organizational policies, wage and hour rules and regulations, and bargaining unit contractual terms.
  • Recommend new processes to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Process special payments such as bonuses, retroactive payments, severance, and benefit time payouts.
  • Reconcile and post deduction/benefit files such as retirement, union dues, and employee health contribution for general ledger accounts.
  • Update employee payroll records for voluntary deductions such as wage garnishments, and other miscellaneous deductions.
  • Participate in Quarterly and Year End reconciliation and processing.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting or related field; or prior related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Three (3) years of experience with in-house payroll systems, processing, and administering multi-state payroll.
  • Experience with Union Payroll is required.
  • Experience in the Construction Industry preferred.
  • Experience with Viewpoint by VISTA ERP preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll-related rules and regulations including Federal, State, and Local Tax.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and work in a structured deadline-oriented environment.
