About the position

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team at the Justice Resource Institute. Justice Resource Institute is one of the most dynamic and diverse nonprofit organizations in New England. Based in Needham, Massachusetts, JRI serves over 24,000 clients in various settings. This position allows a hybrid work schedule with 1-2 days a week onsite in Needham, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll using UltiPro/UKG payroll software and time and attendance systems.
  • Ensure all timesheets are approved by managers.
  • Review time and attendance reports for accuracy and correct use of earnings codes.
  • Enter Personnel Action Forms for new hires, terminations, job changes, and other employee status changes.
  • Calculate PFML, leave of absence, and workers' compensation payments.
  • Review payroll reports such as the pre-check register, pre-check exceptions, payroll changes, employees not paid, negative PTO balances, etc., to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Calculate manual checks as needed.
  • Maintain payroll files by uploading all documents related to employees, ensuring all payroll action forms have the required signatures.
  • Respond to inquiries from employees, HR representatives, and managers.
  • Enter Accounts Payable invoices and process check runs and manual checks as needed.
  • Process third-party billing reports and ensure accurate financial documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • 1-3 years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in UKG payroll software.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong mathematical and calculation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of payroll and benefits administration.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
