About the position

An education organization is seeking to hire a Payroll Specialist who will be responsible for processing payroll for both student and staff employees. The ideal candidate will have experience with payroll processing using Workday and will be familiar with timesheet payroll, not just salary payroll. The Payroll Specialist will process two payrolls biweekly, but on separate weeks, ensuring that all employees are paid accurately and on time. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll processes, regulations, and the ability to maintain employee payroll records with a high level of accuracy and integrity. The Payroll Specialist will be tasked with calculating wages, deductions, and overtime for all employees, ensuring that payments are made through direct deposit or check issuance. They will also prepare and distribute payroll reports to management, reconcile any payroll discrepancies, and collaborate with the HR department to maintain accurate employee information in the payroll system. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for preparing and submitting payroll tax filings in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and must stay up-to-date with payroll laws to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of payroll processes, procedures, and regulations
  • Proficient in using payroll software
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and integrity
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting principles and account reconciliation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
