About the position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing payroll processes, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and maintaining accurate financial records. This role requires a strong understanding of financial concepts and proficiency in payroll software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll for all employees accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain employee records related to payroll, including tax information and benefits deductions.
  • Perform data entry tasks related to payroll adjustments, new hires, terminations, and changes in employee status.
  • Review and reconcile payroll reports to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure proper classification of employees and adherence to governmental accounting standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax filings and reports related to payroll taxes.
  • Utilize financial software such as PeopleSoft, Paychex, or QuickBooks for payroll processing and reporting.
  • Support audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations related to payroll transactions.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role in a finance department.
  • Strong understanding of financial concepts, double entry bookkeeping, and governmental accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in using payroll software (PeopleSoft, Paychex, BBSI, QuickBooks) and other financial software applications.
  • Excellent data entry skills with high attention to detail to ensure accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and compliance requirements related to payroll processing.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with employees regarding payroll inquiries.

Nice-to-haves

  • A background in clerical work or finance is preferred but not mandatory.
