About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Graniterock plays a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of weekly payroll. This position operates under minimal supervision and is responsible for a variety of payroll-related tasks, including managing involuntary deductions, maintaining accounting transactions, and ensuring proper file maintenance and record retention. In this position, the Payroll Specialist will facilitate the weekly payroll process, which includes manual time entry, reviewing edits, printing checks, and posting journal entries to ensure accurate payments to Team Members. The role also involves reconciling and processing information received from various payroll groups, analyzing payroll reports, and participating in regular audits to maintain accurate recordkeeping and reporting. Collaboration with the Human Resources department is vital, particularly in reviewing changes to Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) to ensure that these changes are accurately reflected in time entries. Customer service is a key component of this role, as the Payroll Specialist will provide general information and respond to employee inquiries in a courteous and informed manner, aiming to exceed customer expectations. Additionally, the specialist will handle various system and administrative tasks to support the department and ensure accurate recordkeeping. Meeting weekly and monthly processing deadlines is critical, as is issuing interim checks to comply with local, state, and federal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Comply, understand, and promote safety initiatives to ensure 'Safety Before All Else.'
  • Facilitate the weekly payroll process, including manual time entry, reviewing edits, printing checks, and posting journal entries to issue accurate payments to Team Members.
  • Reconcile and process information received from the weekly payroll groups. Post weekly time entry to ensure accuracy for weekly payroll processing.
  • Analyze payroll reports and participate in regular audits for accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Work with Human Resources to review CBA contract changes to ensure changes are accurately reflected in time entry.
  • Provide general information, answer all employee, and field inquiries in an informed and courteous manner to exceed customer expectations.
  • Process a variety of system and administrative tasks to assist department and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
  • Meet weekly and monthly processing deadlines and issue interim checks to ensure compliance with local, state and federal requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 2-5 years of related Payroll experience
  • Moderate technical knowledge of commonly-used payroll concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Intermediate Excel and Word skills
  • 10-key by touch
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
