About the position

The Payroll Specialist position with the City of Fort Worth involves performing complex payroll functions that require a high level of attention to detail and critical thinking skills. This role is essential in assisting over 1,000 active Fire personnel, including both Civil Service and Civilian employees, ensuring that all payroll-related tasks are executed accurately and efficiently on a daily basis. The position is located at the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex and operates within a team environment, where collaboration is key to resolving payroll discrepancies and ensuring compliance with local rules and regulations. In this role, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for preparing and inputting daily entries of assigned overtime, managing intricate payroll issues through detailed report analysis, and determining corrective actions as necessary. The position also involves overseeing the validation of employee timesheets, addressing discrepancies, and proactively issuing reminders for incomplete entries. Additionally, the specialist will conduct in-depth analyses to resolve payroll errors, ensuring accurate processing and timely submission of payroll data. The job requires the ability to review, analyze, and validate Time & Labor and Absence reports, ensuring the resolution of high-exception cases and compliance with labor agreements and policies. Training Fire timekeepers and updating personnel on payroll policy changes are also key responsibilities. The role demands effective communication with internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and communicate resolutions clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and input daily entries of assigned overtime.
  • Manage the resolution of intricate payroll issues through detailed report analysis and determine corrective action.
  • Oversee the validation of employee timesheets using various databases and related sources, address discrepancies, and proactively issue reminders for incomplete entries.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and resolution of payroll errors, ensuring accurate payroll processing and timely submission.
  • Review, analyze and validate Time & Labor and Absence reports to ensure the resolution of high-exceptions, absences not saved, and time saved not submitted.
  • Validate payroll errors and ensure appropriate processing as required by local rules, regulations, labor agreements, and policies and procedures.
  • Train Fire timekeepers and update personnel of payroll policy changes.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve payroll discrepancies and communicate resolutions effectively.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, finance, accounting or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in payroll operations.
