About the position

Emily Krous with Robert Half is working with a client to find a rockstar payroll specialist. This client is offering an exciting opportunity for a diligent Multi-State Payroll Specialist to join our team, based in Sacramento, California. This is an in-office, full-time role. DIRECT HIRE. This role is centered around ensuring accurate and on-time payroll processing for employees across multiple states. This position operates within the industry and involves significant collaboration with HR and Accounting departments. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payrolls for employees across various states, ensuring compliance with all relevant payroll laws and regulations, and maintaining and updating payroll records regularly. Additionally, the role involves handling special payroll transactions such as bonuses, commissions, and overtime payments, preparing and filing payroll tax returns in a timely manner, and addressing and resolving employee payroll inquiries promptly. The Payroll Specialist will also collaborate with HR and Accounting departments to ensure smooth operation, generate payroll reports for management review, and utilize skills in Multi-state Payroll and ADP - Payroll to optimize processes. Furthermore, the specialist will oversee the overall payroll function and suggest improvements when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Processing payrolls for employees across various states

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Payroll Clerk role or similar
  • Proven experience in multi-state payroll processing
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations
  • Experience with ADP payroll systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with payroll tax regulations across multiple states
