About the position

The Payroll Specialist will manage and process payroll for NHL and AHL players, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations while delivering outstanding customer service. This role focuses on continuous payroll and timesheet auditing, supporting the Payroll Department in maintaining accurate payroll records and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process accurate and timely bi-weekly payroll records, taxes, and deductions.
  • Audit time and attendance records to ensure accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll for NHL and AHL players.
  • Analyze and audit payroll data for accuracy and compliance.
  • Implement payroll corrections as needed for various programs.
  • Reconcile quarter/year-end payroll data, including quarterly taxes and W2s.
  • Prepare and validate the annual NHL Schedule 18 (Staffing and Wages).
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Prepare and input monthly payroll accounting journals across multiple accounting systems.
  • Oversee payroll balance sheet account analyses and provide recommendations.
  • Support the accounting and finance management team with ad hoc payroll-related reporting.
  • Manage the timely recording of payroll journals for the monthly close process.
  • Foster an environment that values outstanding customer service.
  • Ensure appropriate oversight and controls are in place to meet external, internal, and audit requirements.
  • Provide ongoing support to the Payroll Department, focusing on continuous payroll and timesheet auditing.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Continuous payroll and timesheet auditing experience.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with ADP and Workday; familiarity with ABI is a plus.
  • Proficient in Excel, including the use of pivot tables.
  • Strong auditing skills, particularly with timesheets.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of payroll accounting experience.
