About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Merrill Gardens is responsible for managing the payroll process for a large, multi-state workforce. This role involves processing bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accuracy through audits and reconciliations, and providing support to various departments regarding payroll inquiries. Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, including timecards, bonuses, commissions, and benefit adjustments.
  • Perform audits and reconciliations to ensure payroll accuracy.
  • Process manual checks in compliance with state final pay requirements.
  • Field calls and monitor ticketing system inquiries to support Merrill Gardens' communities.
  • Conduct training for general managers and business office directors.
  • Assist with garnishments, including timely entry, employee notification, and responses.
  • Collaborate with HR and accounting to resolve internal questions and issues.
  • Ensure data integrity through audits of employee profiles, taxation, terminations, pay increases, and more.
  • Enter payroll changes such as historical corrections, 401K adjustments, employee loans, and referrals.
  • Provide internal and external reporting on 401K reconciliation, general ledgers, workers compensation, and more.
  • Stay updated on federal, state, county, and city wage and hour regulations.
  • Support the Director of Payroll with payroll initiatives.
  • Assist with unclaimed property reporting and year-end payroll tasks.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate across all departments and communities.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years of progressive payroll experience with 1,000+ employees in a multi-state environment.
  • Experience with decentralized locations and California work rules is preferred.
  • Proficiency in UKG Pro Enterprise and UKG Workforce Management is a plus.
  • Basic accounting knowledge and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
