About the position

The Payroll Specialist at SmithGroup is responsible for managing payroll data input, processing, and analysis using automated systems to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery. This role involves compliance with payroll tax regulations, data entry for employee information, and providing support for payroll-related inquiries. The position is integral to maintaining payroll accuracy and compliance within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Input, process, and analyze payroll data using automated systems to produce accurate and timely payroll.
  • Assist with all payroll tax activities, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Compile payroll data including garnishments, paid time off, insurance, benefits, and 401(k) deductions.
  • Perform data entry for new employee information and updates for current employees.
  • Review information from accounting software for completeness and accuracy, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
  • Perform various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provide General Ledger support.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding payroll issues.
  • Provide payroll information for insurance renewals and audits.
  • Produce various management reports upon request.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of employee tax setup for a multi-state company.
  • Basic understanding of payroll systems, with UKG Pro and/or Deltek Vision experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills in dealing with internal and external clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to set priorities, multitask, and work independently.
