About the position

A Payroll Specialist with a background in human resource coordination is needed for a stable organization based in Monterey on a direct hire basis. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and executing all aspects of payroll processing using ADP. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll processing and a keen attention to detail, along with experience performing human resource coordinator level functions. This role is crucial in ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Specialist will also assist with administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance and retirement plans, and will serve as a point of contact for employees regarding payroll and benefits inquiries. The position requires a proactive approach to managing employee records and ensuring that all payroll-related tasks are completed in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll using ADP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain and update employee records in ADP, including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates or benefits.
  • Assist with administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other company-sponsored benefits.
  • Answer employee benefit-related inquiries and changes, and ensure accurate benefits deductions are reflected in payroll.
  • Support HR functions such as onboarding, offboarding, and employee data management.
  • Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding payroll, benefits, and HR policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of experience processing payroll for companies with at least 25 employees.
  • Human resource coordinator background in addition to payroll processing.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with payroll systems (will train in ADP).
