About the position

The Payroll Coordinator at Lexington Medical Center is responsible for managing the payroll function to ensure accurate and timely compensation for employees. This role involves coordinating with Human Resources, verifying data changes, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. The position requires a strong understanding of payroll processes and excellent communication skills to assist employees and resolve discrepancies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Human Resources to implement policy and pay changes for employee compensation.
  • Verify data changes made by Human Resources and implement approved payroll changes.
  • Research discrepancies in wage calculations with the help of Human Resources personnel.
  • Scan and maintain employee payroll files in the imaging system.
  • Perform all functions of the payroll process for bi-weekly payroll.
  • Ensure payroll processing is completed within internal and external deadlines.
  • Prepare bank deposit information for processing by the Payroll Supervisor or Accounting Manager.
  • Process and verify all S.C. Retirement System forms.
  • Assist in preparation of W-2 forms for current and former employees; prepare duplicate W-2 forms upon request.
  • Process manual payroll checks as required, including documentation and distribution.
  • Coordinate folding, stuffing, and mailing of checks and pay advices.
  • Process necessary information for Workers' Compensation forms.
  • Process levies and garnishments, including preparing check requests and sending necessary information with checks to appropriate sources.
  • Train new and existing timekeepers in the timekeeping system.
  • Assist new employees with mandatory payroll forms during orientation.
  • Furnish employee payroll information to lending institutions, governmental agencies, and department directors/managers upon request.
  • Prepare manual checks for credits issued by ACH, including furnishing appropriate information to Payroll Supervisor or Accounting Manager.
  • Report problems to Payroll Supervisor when there are concerns with payroll programs.
  • Gather and summarize data for analysis as requested.
  • Assist external auditors in payroll areas of their work.
  • Answer phones, greet visitors or employees, and perform other clerical duties as required.
  • Adhere to confidentiality and security policies regarding information and records within the accounting department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in emergencies.
  • Backup for EC Payroll as needed.
  • Transfer data from Kronos to PeopleSoft for each payroll processing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5 Years of payroll experience
  • Associates Degree in Accounting or Certified Payroll Professional with 3 years of payroll experience may substitute for experience
  • Experience in computerized applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with payroll software such as Kronos and PeopleSoft
