About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and accurate processing of the agency's bi-weekly payroll. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong customer service skills, as it involves working closely with staff across the agency to address payroll-related inquiries and issues. The role is hybrid, allowing for remote work with occasional in-person responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Process bi-weekly payroll
• Maintain payroll integrity by auditing timesheets for time and attendance entries
• Detect inaccuracies and irregularities in payroll and follow up with employees and/or managers for corrections
• Calculate special pays
• Review payroll previews and final payroll reports for accuracy and completeness
• Provide high level of customer service and support to employees regarding timesheets, pay statements, garnishments, and related areas
• Process bi-weekly 401(k) invoices
• Ensure timely and accurate processing of employee garnishments and 401(k) loan repayments
• Collaborate with Human Resources on payroll processing, benefits deductions, and employment verifications
• Assist with quarterly balance sheet reconciliations and annual audit preparation

Requirements

• High School graduate
• Minimum two (2) years of work experience in payroll processing
• Demonstrated familiarity and experience with payroll systems; experience with UKG Pro is a plus
• Strong customer service and detail orientation
• Oral and written fluency in English; additional language skills are welcome
• Proficiency in basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
