About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Water Management Services Inc. (WMS) is responsible for assisting in the processing of payroll in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. This role involves timely data entry related to payroll functions, ensuring accuracy in payroll processing, and maintaining payroll records. The position requires attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in payroll processing using QuickBooks.
  • Collect, review, and audit employee timecards for payroll compilation weekly and monthly.
  • Record changes affecting net wages, including exemptions, insurance coverage, voluntary deductions, and garnishments.
  • Prepare wage tax deposit requirements for all payrolls, including federal and state tax requirements.
  • Process garnishments and court-ordered payroll deductions, maintaining records for each employee.
  • Process W-2s and 1099s.
  • Ensure payroll deductions for IRA contributions are accurate.
  • Assist with the WMS annual audit and audits of contract water and wastewater systems.
  • Ensure compliance with tax requirements for quarterly and annual reporting.

Requirements

  • Proficient in QuickBooks accounting software and Enterprise, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook (minimum 3 years of experience).
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, or 10+ years of equivalent accounting experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data.
  • Deadline-driven with excellent time management skills; ability to multi-task.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Strong math and financial research skills; ability to identify and correct errors in financial reporting promptly.
  • Ability to work well with others.
