About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Roth Staffing Companies is responsible for managing payroll processing, ensuring compliance with payroll regulations, maintaining accurate records, and providing excellent customer service to employees regarding payroll inquiries. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll processes and tax regulations, along with proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and verify timekeeping information for all employees.
  • Review and verify payroll data before processing to ensure accuracy.
  • Process employee wages, including special payments such as bonuses and benefits.
  • Address discrepancies in payroll and resolve issues promptly.
  • Process Union Dues, Wage Garnishments, and Benefits (HSA, FSA, 401-k).
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
  • Stay updated with changes in payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax returns accurately and on time.
  • Respond to inquiries from tax authorities and auditors regarding payroll matters.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee wages, deductions, and hours worked.
  • Generate payroll reports for management and other stakeholders.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Calculate Hours and Labor Analysis including Labor distributions.
  • Prepare year-end payroll reports, including W-2 forms for employees and retirees.
  • Analyze payroll-related variances, such as actuals versus budget at the general ledger level.
  • Fulfill ad hoc analysis and reporting requests as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries.
  • Assist employees and other departments with payroll-related issues.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a business-related field or equivalent; bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Benefits

  • Pay range of $28 to $32 an hour.
