About the position

The Payroll Specialist at The Save Mart Companies is responsible for supporting the weekly processing of company-wide payroll and managing specialized payroll functions. This role involves handling garnishments, child support processing, Trust Fund reporting, payroll tax deposits, and various payroll-related inquiries. The Payroll Specialist will work closely with payroll systems and may assist in directing Payroll Clerks, ensuring compliance and accuracy in payroll administration.

Responsibilities

  • Process wage garnishments and child support orders as assigned.
  • Administer payroll for Trust Funds, including reporting eligibility and submitting monthly reports.
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from external agencies regarding hours and wages.
  • Calculate and maintain all time off categories for employees.
  • Update employee information in the payroll system, including deductions and withholdings.
  • Perform audits and collaborate with managers to ensure compliance with the Time and Attendance system.
  • Enter data into the payroll system, compute wages and deductions, and post to payroll records.
  • Process final checks, ensuring all key elements are secured and accurately calculated.
  • Coordinate tax notices/issues with tax filing services and agencies to resolve tax-related issues.
  • Calculate and file bi-weekly Federal and State payroll taxes, sending reports to Accounting and Cash Management departments.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of garnishment and child support processing.
  • Experience in a unionized payroll environment and Trust Fund reporting.
  • Understanding of tax deposit requirements and payroll calculations.
  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and basic skills in Microsoft Word.
  • Proficient 10-key typing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid mathematical skills.
