The Payroll Specialist II position at Mountain America Credit Union is a critical role that requires exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in processing payroll transactions while maintaining financial integrity. The Payroll Specialist II will be responsible for safeguarding sensitive employee data and upholding privacy standards, demonstrating the ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion. In this role, the individual will utilize payroll software and systems to process bi-weekly payroll, balancing wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions. They will ensure timely submission of payroll data and accurately process terminations in compliance with applicable laws. Coordination with the HR department to manage employee benefits and deductions is also a key responsibility. The Payroll Specialist II will confirm compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, providing assistance in reviewing payroll functions, verifying hours worked, and ensuring accurate and timely payment to employees. The position also involves maintaining accurate payroll records, creating and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs), and performing routine corrections to payroll documents as needed. The Payroll Specialist II will assist with payroll data analysis to identify trends and discrepancies, generate periodic reports related to payroll activities, and provide support during payroll audits. Addressing and resolving employee payroll inquiries and issues is another essential duty, requiring the application of foundational payroll knowledge to handle simple and routine payroll issues within defined parameters. The individual will exercise independent judgment when processing payroll and handling related tasks, following established guidelines and procedures. They will also back up other Payroll Specialists and mentor Payroll Specialist I team members. Continuous development of expertise in payroll systems and industry standards is expected, along with staying updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations. The Payroll Specialist II will contribute to the training of team members where applicable and adhere to established payroll procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance and accuracy in payroll processing.
