About the position

The Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Corporate Payroll function by managing time and attendance and overseeing weekly payroll activities. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate payroll records, processing employee status changes, and generating various organizational reports. The Payroll Specialist also audits payroll information for accuracy and participates in problem-solving and special projects within the Payroll Department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all internal Payroll / HR inquiries or requests.
  • Prepare responses to notices from government agencies regarding employee tax filings.
  • Ensure payroll-related transactions are processed in compliance with external and internal policies.
  • Track and determine regular and overtime pay, factoring in commission-based income or bonuses.
  • Screen time-worked inputs for calculating, coding, or other errors.
  • Monitor computer reports alerting Payroll Clerks to problems or errors.
  • Reconcile errors and maintain payroll records.
  • Review and process payroll adjustments, including vacation, sick, and other time off.
  • Prepare monthly payroll entry and accrual.
  • Field and respond to payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies as required.
  • Maintain knowledge of rules and laws governing payroll administration practices.
  • Prepare Accounts Payable check requests as necessary.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Human Resources, Business or equivalent experience in Payroll and HR support
  • 2 years of experience as an HR Payroll
  • Exposure to Labor Law and employment equity regulations
  • Exposure to payroll practices
  • Full understanding of HR functions and best practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools
  • Fantastic organizational and time management skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
