About the position

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team in the Government sector in Cary, North Carolina. This position offers a contract-to-hire opportunity, where the incumbent will be responsible for processing payroll, maintaining records, and managing various funding sources. The role requires flexibility and multitasking in a fast-paced environment, ensuring efficient payroll operations and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Handle payroll processing tasks for various levels across the department.
  • Maintain accurate records of payroll, benefits, and post-payroll reporting.
  • Assist in the management of state/federal funds and multiple sources of money.
  • Provide backup support for code changes, federal government reporting, and understanding of payroll processes and benefits.
  • Participate in various projects as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and multitasking abilities.
  • Utilize Excel, Word, and Oracle for various tasks and duties.
  • Help in the transition to semi-monthly payroll and assist in upgrading Oracle.
  • Actively engage in problem-solving and firefighting, ensuring departmental efficiency.
  • Practice proactive communication, asking questions when necessary, and actively listen to instructions and feedback.
  • Contribute to the team's efforts in managing workload, especially during periods of staff shortage.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in using Accounting Software Systems
  • Experience in ADP - Financial Services
  • Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now
  • Knowledge of Ceridian and Dayforce systems
  • Understanding of 401k - RRSP Administration procedures
  • Experience with About Time software
  • Ability to handle various Accounting Functions
  • Experience in Auditing
  • Ability to manage Benefit Functions
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to handle confidential information
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred
  • Relevant experience in a government payroll department would be advantageous
  • Understanding of government payroll regulations and procedures
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound judgments
  • High level of integrity and professionalism.
