About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Heritage Insurance is responsible for managing and processing payroll and benefits functions within the organization. This full-time role requires collaboration with the HR team and finance department to ensure accurate payroll processing and compliance with relevant policies and regulations. The position is based in the Tampa, FL office and is primarily focused on payroll duties, with some involvement in benefits support.

Responsibilities

  • Perform payroll-related functions including processing new hires, terminations, tax changes, wage garnishments, deductions, and direct deposits.
  • Review and verify payroll data in a timely manner, calculating overtime and other pay premiums, and entering payroll data.
  • Prepare manual checks as necessary and oversee maintenance of payroll records and files.
  • Respond to routine inquiries concerning payroll deductions, accruals, wage garnishments, child support payments, and employment verifications.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end reports and reconcile all payroll-related accounts and activities.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of payroll practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with 5500 audit, workers compensation audit, and internal payroll auditing.
  • Perform other related duties and special payroll and benefits projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.
  • 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Acute attention to detail and ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2-3 years of experience with ADP Workforce Now payroll processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
