About the position

We're looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team at Sapp Bros. In this role, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our employees are paid accurately and on time, as well as deliver a high level of customer service to our employees and leaders throughout the organization. Primary Duties in this Position include maintaining various payroll records such as timecard sheets, automatic bank deposit authorizations, payroll journals, and ledgers; making required adjustments through established procedures. You will be the first point of contact for customer service payroll-related questions, including but not limited to direct deposit changes, password or HRIS questions, on-demand pay, W2s, name changes, etc. Additionally, you will prepare salary and wage changes including deductions, accruals, and the issuance and processing of timecards. Monitoring the account distribution of salary and wage payments will be part of your responsibilities, including correcting prior distributions. You will also be tasked with balancing or reconciling assigned payroll records; resolving and adjusting discrepancies; and analyzing payroll audit reports to identify and locate sources of error. Gathering and analyzing payroll data will be essential, as well as consulting with management and staff to discuss salary and wage problems such as improper deductions and accruals; escalating issues through the appropriate organization and department structure. You will need to make and check routine arithmetic calculations; post figures and enter data on appropriate payroll documents and/or HRIS system. Interpreting, explaining, and recommending changes to rules and regulations as they relate to payroll will also be part of your role. Responding to inquiries from outside agencies such as financial or credit organizations, including but not limited to garnishments and employment verifications, will be required. Completing and offering administrative support and analytical reporting for the HR department as needed, including compensation, learning management and training, and health and welfare as directed, will round out your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll experience with extensive knowledge using ADP.
  • Previous payroll experience in a transportation, retail, restaurant, and/or manufacturing, preferred.
  • Knowledge of and proficient skills using Microsoft software; including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work patiently and professionally at all times with multiple levels of the workforce.
  • Knowledge of federal and state and other legal regulatory laws and regulations pertaining to payroll.
  • Knowledge of payroll processing reporting.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, independently and adhere to all payroll processing practices.

Nice-to-haves
