About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Altman Specialty Plants is responsible for performing specialized and technical payroll functions under the supervision of the Director of Payroll. This role involves processing payroll data accurately and timely for a high volume of employee records, ensuring compliance with multi-state laws, and maintaining employee data in various systems. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with managers and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Track and process all court-ordered wage garnishments.
  • Maintain employee data in ADP Workforce Now, File Hold, Wisely, and E-Time.
  • Process separations in accordance with multi-state laws.
  • Process W-4 and state withholding changes.
  • Review new hires for accuracy.
  • Accurately process manual checks during off-cycle payroll.
  • Set up direct deposits, following the verification procedure.
  • Input personnel action forms for address changes, vacation & sick leave, and leave of absences.
  • Accurately process employment verification requests in a timely manner.
  • Review and prepare processed PA's in accordance with company scanning structure.
  • Effectively communicate with managers and employees.
  • Answer basic employee questions regarding direct deposit setup, taxation, and deductions.
  • Engage in cross-training with other Payroll Specialists.
  • Maintain processes and reconcile a variety of payroll documents in compliance with policies and guidelines.
  • Assist in the revision and implementation of improved payroll systems and procedures.
  • Assist with numerous projects as time permits.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong computer literacy and mathematical skills.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of increasingly responsible experience in payroll.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high volume paperwork.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred but not required.
  • Experience with V-look Up and Pivot Tables in Excel is a must.
