About the position

The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing payroll, managing payroll taxes, and generating reports within a public accounting firm. This hybrid role combines remote work with in-office collaboration, focusing on delivering accurate payroll and financial services while supporting bookkeeping tasks.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll and quarterly payroll reports.
• Prepare W-2s and 1099s at year-end.
• Collaborate with the Payroll Manager and Lead to migrate payroll clients from QuickBooks Desktop to Paylocity.
• Prepare monthly financial statements, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements.
• Reconcile bank and credit card accounts using QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online.
• Manage accounts payable (A/P) and accounts receivable (A/R) for clients.
• Contribute to team efforts on larger projects to meet deadlines.

Requirements

• 3+ years of payroll processing experience.
• Proficient in QuickBooks Desktop and Paylocity is required.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with payroll taxes and pre/post-tax benefits.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) is preferred, or the willingness to attain a CPP in the first year of employment.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is a plus but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
