About the position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join the Payroll Operational Tax group. This role involves ensuring compliance with laws and regulations related to payroll, maintaining knowledge of payroll practices, and serving as a subject matter expert in payroll taxation. The specialist will coach others on payroll best practices, train junior team members, and manage daily operations related to payroll taxes using HR applications like Workday and ServiceNow.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all applicable laws, regulations, and company practices in daily work.
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, and company practices related to payroll matters.
  • Make recommendations for interpretation of laws and regulations and improvement of processes within payroll expertise.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of the end-to-end payroll process.
  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on payroll taxation activities and strategies.
  • Coach others on payroll best practices, ensuring compliance and effective use of practices.
  • Train junior team members on payroll-related applications, such as writing macros or Excel functions.
  • Establish clear, well-defined processes necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Delineate complex processes into simpler tasks and functions.
  • Organize and manage daily cases activity and day-to-day operations for Workday payroll taxes.
  • Create a workflow that effectively coordinates and integrates tasks and functions.
  • Evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of current-state resource utilization and results accomplishments.
  • Identify and take advantage of opportunities to accomplish multiple objectives and obtain synergies through process development and management.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of Accounting, Payroll, Payroll Tax experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.
  • Experience with payroll taxes including W-2, tax calculations, and multi-state payroll tax.
  • Understanding of federal, local, and state tax regulations.
  • Experience within Workday or ServiceNow.
  • Advanced experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong skills in analytics with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
