About the position

Tara Cares, an Orchard Park based long-term care administrative support company, is seeking a full-time Payroll Specialist to join our in-house payroll department. The Payroll Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for our employees. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can manage payroll data entry, maintain employee payroll records, and ensure compliance with approved pay policies. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing garnishments, handling direct deposit entries, and managing payroll deductions. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will issue and record adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive increases, ensuring that all employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions are processed accurately. In this role, the Payroll Specialist will also be tasked with recording employee information such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations to maintain and update payroll records. A critical part of the job involves reviewing time sheets, work charts, wage computations, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies. The Payroll Specialist must understand and accurately set up Federal, State, and Local taxes where applicable. The position may also involve ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned, making it essential for the candidate to be adaptable and proactive in their approach to work.

Responsibilities

  • Payroll data entry and maintenance of employee payroll records.
  • Processing garnishments and timely processing of payrolls in compliance with approved pay policies.
  • Completing, verifying, and processing forms and documentation for administration of garnishments, direct deposit entries, and payroll deductions.
  • Issuing and recording adjustments to pay related to previous errors or retroactive increases.
  • Processing and issuing employee paychecks and statements of earnings and deductions.
  • Recording employee information, such as exemptions, transfers, and resignations, to maintain and update payroll records.
  • Reviewing time sheets, work charts, wage computations, and other information to detect and reconcile payroll discrepancies.
  • Setting up Federal, State, and Local taxes accurately where applicable.
  • Performing ad hoc reporting and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience in processing of in-house payroll is preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of MS Office, financial packages, and various payroll management software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Detail-oriented individual with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal labor law pertaining to health care workers.
  • Associate Degree preferred.
