About the position

The Payroll Specialist at Corning Credit Union is responsible for administering payroll processes, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and managing financial settlements. This role requires a strong understanding of payroll systems and tax laws, as well as the ability to analyze data and respond to employee inquiries effectively. The position is integral to the Human Resources team, contributing to a culture of teamwork and exceptional service within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Administer payroll for the Credit Union, including timekeeping and payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and Internal Revenue Code related to wages and benefits.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, audit complex entries, and reconcile payroll reports and ledgers.
  • Collaborate with the accounting department to manage GL entries and ensure accurate financial settlement.
  • Audit bi-weekly, quarterly, and annual reports including Wage and Tax registers, 941s, W2s, and W3s for timely filings.
  • Lead compliance with applicable external audits.
  • Gather and analyze data for various HR metrics, proactively reporting on notable trends.
  • Process HRIS entries and maintenance, assisting with new hires and employee updates.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and other HR needs.
  • Serve as an HRIS technical expert, ensuring accurate maintenance and mapping of employee data.
  • Review unemployment insurance claims and account balances, responding within deadlines.
  • Assist the HR team with annual benefits enrollment and compensable leaves of absence.
  • Research and draft personnel policies as needed, identifying ways to improve policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Human Resources preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience as a lead payroll administrator in a corporate environment (100+ employees).
  • Strong experience navigating payroll and tax laws.
  • Experience working with a corporate HRIS is required; experience with ADP Workforce Now and Time and Attendance is desired.
  • CPP or FPC certification is desired.
