About the position

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our team in Chicago, Illinois. The role involves overseeing all aspects of the timekeeping and payroll process for a large number of employees. This role is crucial to the smooth running of our organization and involves working with both unionized and non-unionized staff, utilizing various payroll software systems, and operating within a team environment. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that payroll is processed accurately and on time, which is essential for maintaining employee satisfaction and compliance with labor laws. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively while adhering to company policies and procedures. In this role, you will oversee the accurate and timely completion of timesheets, ensuring that all data is entered into payroll software and spreadsheets efficiently. You will handle direct deposit requests and data transfers, process paper payroll checks for distribution, and manage wage garnishments while processing related reports. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing vacation calculations for both unionized and non-unionized staff, overseeing timekeeping technologies, software, and hardware, and training management staff on using payroll systems and app access. You will also adjust pay for raises, bonuses, and other compensation based on company policies and contractual expectations, utilizing your knowledge of payroll, taxes, garnishments, and benefits distribution.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems
  • Experience with Ceridian payroll system
  • Knowledge of IBM AS/400 system
  • Familiarity with Kronos Timekeeping System
  • Expertise in 401k - RRSP Administration
  • Familiarity with 'About Time' software
  • Proficient in accounting functions
  • Experience with Accounts Payable (AP)
  • Experience with Accounts Receivable (AR)
