About the position

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Supervisor/Manager/Director in the Education - University sector located in Hoboken, New Jersey. This role is responsible for overseeing and managing payroll operations, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and supervising other payroll personnel. The Payroll Supervisor/Manager/Director will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and efficient processing of semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls, preparing and approving payroll adjustments including tax refunds, payment reversals, and year-end W2 adjustments. This position requires a strong understanding of payroll tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with Human Resources on employee pay and benefit items. In this role, you will review and respond to tax notices and garnishments from agencies in coordination with our third-party vendor. You will also verify the data entry of Payroll Administrators and approve the completion and settlement of each payroll to be transmitted. The successful candidate will ensure the proper distribution of payroll to the correct general ledger accounts and reconcile and approve invoices from our external payroll vendors. Identifying and implementing improvements to business processes to enhance performance, save costs, and improve the quality of work will be a key responsibility. Additionally, you will oversee the reconciliation of 941 quarterly taxes processed by ADP and Workday, assist auditors with requests and questions related to payroll, and conduct weekly Payroll Team meetings while managing special tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Applicant must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • A minimum of five years of experience in payroll, preferably in an educational institution
  • Strong knowledge of Workday HRIS system is essential
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to supervise a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Excellent understanding of payroll tax laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with international payroll processing is preferred
  • Ability to problem-solve and make informed decisions.
