About the position

The Payroll Supervisor will oversee and supervise the organization's payroll functions, ensuring timely and accurate pay processing in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role involves coordinating payroll activities, collaborating with HR and accounting departments, training and supervising payroll staff, and maintaining payroll records to ensure data integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and timely process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Manage payroll team members' performance and train new staff.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure data integrity.
  • Manage and resolve any issues related to payroll promptly.
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports to management.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with California wage and hour laws, including overtime rules and minimum wage regulations.
  • Maintain end-to-end payroll processing for multi-state operations, focusing on California and North Carolina.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance departments to ensure seamless payroll operations.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll procedures and records to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Attend training sessions regularly to stay updated on changes in payroll laws and regulations.
  • Supervise Payroll Administrator and Payroll Accountant.
  • Ensure accurate processing of payroll updates, including new hires and terminations.
  • Create and maintain timekeeping written policies.
  • Conduct training of managerial staff on all timekeeping obligations.
  • Coordinate activities supporting required payroll and related benefits-related audits.
  • Communicate with employees to answer any questions regarding payroll.
  • Maintain the timekeeping system database, including Temporary Employees.
  • Process all tasks related to employee garnishments.
  • Record and post payroll entries to the General Ledger.
  • Transmit all electronic files to outsourcing parties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in accounting or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in payroll processing and benefits in a midsize organization.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced understanding of payroll database software, preferably Workday, Kronos, and ADP.
