About the position

The Payroll Systems Analyst at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in the development, implementation, and maintenance of payroll systems that support all aspects of payroll and time and attendance processing. This position requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including Human Resources (HR), Digital Technology Services/Information Technology (DTS/IT), medical center personnel across the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) network, vendors, and internal operations staff. The analyst will be responsible for designing new payroll information systems or modifying existing ones to adapt to changing requirements, ensuring that the payroll processes are efficient and compliant with relevant laws and regulations. In this fully remote position, the Payroll Systems Analyst will assist in gathering business requirements and translating them into functional system requirements. They will provide and design both ad-hoc and standard payroll reports for clients, while also acquiring in-depth knowledge of payroll and time and attendance system rules, table structures, and processing. This knowledge is essential for effectively managing and resolving any inconsistencies or incorrect calculations that may arise. The analyst will act as a subject matter expert on payroll implementation projects, overseeing documentation, design, change management, cost estimation, project management, testing, production support, and auditing. They will maintain a leadership role in directing payroll system initiatives and participate in all aspects of payroll system implementations, from project initiation through to implementation. Additionally, the analyst will be involved in system maintenance initiatives, including upgrades and patches, and will work to achieve system and change acceptance within the HR department and throughout HMH. Confidentiality is paramount in this role, as the analyst will handle sensitive payroll data and must comply with all HMH data security guidelines. They will also manage the ticket system for employee, leader, and timekeeper requests, monitor payroll processing failures, and collaborate with the technical team to provide solutions. The analyst will participate in payroll processing of input files using HMH processes on a rotational basis and will perform other duties and projects as assigned, adhering to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in business requirements gathering and translate needs to system functional requirements.
  • Support DTS/IT in development projects related to payroll systems.
  • Provide and design ad-hoc and standard payroll reports to clients.
  • Acquire and retain in-depth knowledge of payroll and time and attendance system rules and processing.
  • Develop solutions to complex Payroll Systems situations or projects.
  • Act as subject matter expert on Payroll implementation projects, documentation, design, change management, cost estimation, project management, testing, production support, and auditing.
  • Maintain a strong leadership role in the direction of Payroll system initiatives.
  • Participate in all aspects of Payroll System implementations from project initiation through implementation.
  • Participate in all system maintenance initiatives including upgrades and patches.
  • Work actively to achieve system and change acceptance within the HR Department and throughout HMH.
  • Provide advice and counsel on best practices for Payroll and Time and Labor.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all payroll data and comply with HMH data security guidelines.
  • Perform ad-hoc projects and other department tasks as assigned.
  • Manage the Ticket system for employee/leader/timekeeper requests on a rotational basis.
  • Monitor all Payroll processing failures and partner with the technical group to provide solutions.
  • Act as a liaison between the Payroll Operations team and the Technical team.
  • Participate in the Payroll processing of input files using HMH processes on a rotation basis.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or GED equivalent programs.
  • General understanding of payroll processing and related system activities and tax laws.
  • Five or more years of experience with all aspects of Payroll configuration/processing with an ERP system.
  • Five or more years of experience in documentation, design, change management, cost estimation, project management, testing, production support, and auditing.
  • Five or more years of experience in report writing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective knowledge of technological/automation theories, principles, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a demanding environment with good organization and communication skills.
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills to articulate requirements and technical specifications effectively.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
  • Experience with Oracle, PSOFT, and Workday ERP systems.
  • Knowledgeable in SQL design and understanding.
