About the position

The Payroll Tax Accountant position at Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) is a full-time role responsible for overseeing the state's payroll tax compliance in a multi-state environment. This position is part of the Accounting Services Division and involves ensuring internal controls for payroll functions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid telework/in-office schedule, contributing to the development of policies and services that enhance the quality of life for Minnesotans.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the state's payroll tax compliance responsibilities in a multi-state environment.
• Ensure internal controls for payroll functions are maintained and effective.
• File quarterly and annual tax returns as required.
• Conduct research and provide solutions related to payroll tax issues.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding payroll tax matters.

Requirements

• Three (3) years of payroll, tax, or accounting work experience with a large ERP system for Finance Specialist 2.
• Four (4) years of payroll, tax, or accounting work experience with a large ERP system for Finance Specialist 3.
• Extensive knowledge of employment tax law and regulations.
• Strong research, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field.
• Advanced degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field.
• A Payroll Certification issued by the PayrollOrg.
• Extensive experience with employment taxes for a large employer.
• Extensive knowledge of Oracle/PeopleSoft software.
• CPA certificate/license.
