About the position

The Payroll Tax Associate at Dollar Tree will be an integral part of a collaborative payroll team, focusing on timely state and local tax remittance, tax filing, and compliance. This role requires a self-starter who will manage multi-state payroll tax preparation and processing, research and respond to agency notices, and assist with internal payroll inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain withholding data for employees in accordance with agency requirements.
  • Prepare, process and fund weekly and/or bi-weekly payroll tax wires.
  • Process monthly and quarterly returns for taxing authorities not supported by ADP.
  • Maintain local tax controls in HCM/Payroll system, including coordination & transmission of new deduction withholdings through ADP SmartCompliance.
  • Register new tax accounts with local authorities and withholding and SUI accounts with state agencies.
  • Monitor external tax notifications and internal payroll reports, and build and run Excel Add-In and Showcase queries to identify tax concerns and new areas of process improvement.
  • Research employee tax issues and make necessary manual payroll adjustments and W-2 corrections.
  • Research and respond timely to tax agency notices to ensure proper reporting and remittance of taxable wages and tax.
  • Assist with quarterly and year-end processing including W-2s, W-2Cs and Canadian T4 & T4 Amendments.
  • Run necessary reports, payroll processes, off-cycle payroll closes, participate in internal & external audits.
  • Monitor and maintain correct payroll tax deduction per submitted Federal W-4s and State and Local tax withholding forms.
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed or required.
  • Respond to Payroll Tax email inquiries timely.

Requirements

  • Self-starter with minimal direction or supervision
  • Working knowledge of MS Software including Excel; pivot tables, formulas, linking cells and spreadsheets
  • Accounting knowledge and understanding of GL, Journal Entries, reconciliations
  • 2 years of multi-state payroll tax processing or equivalent experience with multi-state Payroll Taxation
  • Protection of Confidential and Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

Nice-to-haves

  • Infor Lawson and/or Workday payroll experience, or similar systems
  • Showcase and Excel Add-in experience
  • ADP SmartCompliance experience
  • FPC or CPP Certification
  • Associates in Accounting or other Financial Degree
