About the position

The Payroll Tax Specialist plays a crucial role in the corporate Payroll Department at Allegis Group, focusing on the preparation and filing of federal, state, and local payroll tax forms. This position requires attention to detail and compliance with various tax regulations, ensuring timely and accurate submissions while maintaining confidentiality and supporting team collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares corporate payroll tax forms such as 941, 940, state unemployment, and local withholding tax.
  • Prepares timely and accurate filings based on jurisdiction requirements.
  • Prepares amended returns, processes refund checks, and reviews outstanding checks within established timeframes.
  • Commands tax payments using various methods and websites.
  • Responds timely and accurately to correspondence received.
  • Maintains, analyzes, updates, and develops various electronic and hard copy records.
  • Utilizes and develops a basic understanding of tax programs and software such as MasterTax, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Educates and trains corporate, payroll, and field personnel in tax-related issues when appropriate.
  • Researches and complies with all related Federal, State, and Local tax regulations.
  • Partners with financial teams to resolve discrepancies with payroll accruals, tax payments, and tracking of expected refunds.
  • Works with confidential matters.
  • Collaborates closely with team members to support the timely and accurate processing of all job duties.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or 2+ years of related experience is required.
  • Payroll Tax filing or a background in basic Accounting, Payroll, or other tax experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with tax compliance as it relates to payroll records is essential.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and/or MasterTax software is preferred.

  • Experience in payroll tax compliance and quality control.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and accounting principles.
