About the position

The Payroll Tax Specialist at the University of Oklahoma is responsible for managing foreign national and multi-state tax compliance, ensuring accurate payroll and accounts payable tax reporting. This role involves reviewing tax statuses, setting up state taxes in PeopleSoft, and preparing necessary documentation for tax payments. The position supports various departments with tax determination and documentation requirements, contributing to the financial integrity of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage foreign national and multi-state tax compliance.
  • Review tax status for payroll and accounts payable payments.
  • Set up state taxes in PeopleSoft.
  • Perform year-end reporting for tax purposes.
  • Analyze tax status of foreign national individuals being paid through payroll and accounts payable.
  • Collect required legal documentation for payments to foreign nationals.
  • Manage multi-state employee tax setups.
  • Review Payroll, Bursar, Accounts Payable, and Pcard transactions for withholding requirements.
  • Create invoices and payment documentation for tax payments.
  • Prepare cost transfers for clearing payroll funds for tax payments.
  • Prepare OUHSC 1042 documents annually.
  • Assist departments across campus with tax determination and documentation requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience (48 months of related experience).
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, methods, and terminology.
  • Computer skills in MS Office, accounting software, and databases.
  • Ability to apply mathematical methods or formulas to solve problems.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and interpret accounting data to prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Experience in multistate payroll tax compliance.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
