About the position

The Payroll Tax Specialist at Owens & Minor plays a crucial role in auditing and reconciling payroll tax entries, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position is responsible for the complete payroll process, from start to finish, leveraging various systems and collaborating with teammates to ensure timely and accurate payments. The role also involves providing payroll reporting and guidance to HR coordinators, making it integral to the company's operations in the healthcare sector.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and reconcile payroll tax entries on a teammate and company level.
  • Calculate and verify employee taxes according to legislative requirements.
  • Reconcile tax payments to vendors and maintain quarterly and annual balances.
  • Register for new tax accounts with agencies as required.
  • Provide Workday generated reports on a scheduled and ad hoc basis.
  • Complete accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Reconcile payroll transactions to Payroll Registers each pay cycle.
  • Test and approve payroll system patches, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Act as the first point of contact for DC HR/Coordinators regarding payroll matters.
  • Prepare manual payments outside the payroll cycle as approved by the Manager.
  • Research outstanding payroll checks to assist with the escheatable fund process.
  • Utilize ERP system to create and run ad-hoc reports as requested.
  • Participate and lead special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required; CPP Certification preferred.
  • Firm knowledge of Federal, State, and Local tax withholdings and calculations.
  • Experience in registering with tax agencies.
  • At least five years of payroll and payroll systems experience with a large corporation (2000+ employees).
  • Excellent reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
  • Workday and Kronos experience is preferred; advanced MS Excel skills.
