About the position

Koniag Government Services is seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist to join our team in Chantilly, Virginia. This is a hybrid position that requires 1-2 days per week in the office. The Payroll Tax Specialist will play a crucial role in managing payroll tax responsibilities for multiple entities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll tax processes and will be responsible for registering new states, auditing tax setups, monitoring tax notices, and filing taxes that are not covered by our payroll tax provider. This position requires a detail-oriented individual who can handle multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. The Payroll Tax Specialist will be tasked with registering new states and following up on the registration process, which constitutes 30% of the role. Another 30% will involve auditing tax setups in payroll and ensuring that payments and filings to the relevant agencies are accurate. Monitoring tax notices will take up 25% of the responsibilities, which includes sending notices to our payroll tax provider and following up on state tax websites. Additionally, the specialist will be responsible for filing and paying taxes that are not covered by our payroll provider, accounting for 10% of the workload, and conducting annual tax audits, including workers' compensation reporting and W2 audits, which will take up the remaining 5%. The working environment is a professional office setting with a low to moderate noise level. The role requires the use of standard office equipment and may involve sitting for extended periods. The incumbent must be able to perform basic math calculations, read, and withstand moderate stress levels. Physical demands include the ability to occasionally lift and move up to 25 lbs, and specific vision abilities are required for the job, including close vision and depth perception.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years of proven payroll tax experience.
  • Local candidate preferred.
