The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in providing assistance with activities of daily living and certain hands-on care to clients. This position involves personal hygiene care, toileting, and elimination of waste, as well as reminders for medication, transfers, and ambulation. The PCA is also responsible for companion tasks, which include accompanying clients to appointments and maintaining a healthy living environment through personal laundry, light housekeeping, and other daily living activities. It is important to note that the provision of hands-on care is contingent upon the licensing requirements within the state of practice. In this role, the PCA assists patients with personal care activities such as bathing, oral hygiene, meal preparation and feeding, dressing and undressing, and ambulation. The PCA must perform all duties accurately and in a timely manner while maintaining the confidentiality of client information in accordance with HIPAA standards. Observing appropriate infection control procedures is crucial to safeguard the client/patient, and any abnormal findings or conditions must be reported to the office promptly. The PCA is expected to adhere to the company's standards, policies, and procedures, arrive at the client's home on time, and represent the company positively at all times. Flexibility and adaptability are essential in meeting the diverse needs of clients, and effective communication with office staff regarding availability is required. The PCA must also comply with time and attendance policies and provide necessary compliance-related information in a timely manner. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to fulfill the role of a Personal Care Assistant.
