About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) position involves providing essential personal care and homemaker/companion services to clients under the supervision of a Care Coordinator or Care Coordinating Supervisor. The PCA is responsible for ensuring the comfort and well-being of clients, particularly the elderly or disabled, by performing a variety of tasks that promote health and safety in the home environment. This role requires a compassionate individual who can follow a written Plan of Care and communicate effectively with clients and their families. The PCA will be assigned specific clients and will work closely with them to meet their personal care needs, which may include assistance with daily living activities and household tasks. In this role, the PCA will perform essential household services that are crucial for maintaining health care at home. These services include meal preparation, laundry, light housekeeping, and reminding clients to take their medications as directed. Additionally, the PCA will assist clients with personal care activities such as bathing, grooming, and dressing. The position also involves routine housekeeping duties, grocery shopping, and accompanying clients to appointments and social activities. It is vital for the PCA to report any changes in the client's condition to the Care Coordinator and document the care provided accurately. The PCA must adhere to safety protocols and infection control practices to ensure a safe environment for clients. This includes using equipment safely and only after receiving proper orientation. The role requires effective communication with agency staff and participation in team meetings, as well as maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of the job. The PCA is expected to complete annual skills competency validation and attend in-service programs to meet compliance requirements. This position can be part-time or full-time, with shifts primarily on weekends, and requires a commitment to providing high-quality care to clients in their homes.
