About the position
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role involves providing essential personal care services to patients in a home health setting. The PCA will assist clients with daily living activities, maintain a clean and safe environment, and support clients in their personal hygiene and mobility needs. This position requires adherence to state and federal regulations regarding personal care services and involves reporting to a licensed health professional.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal hygiene including mouth and hair care, toileting, ambulation, and exercise.
- Support clients with eating, dressing, shaving, and physical transfers.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment, including light cleaning and straightening of living areas.
- Assist with the use of devices for daily living such as wheelchairs or walkers.
- Help with prescribed range of motion exercises and special diets.
- Keep records of personal health care activities and observe changes in patient behavior.
- Assist patients with self-administration of medication as assigned by the RN.
- Abide by the agency's Code of Conduct.
Requirements
- Must have completed formal training as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) per state and federal law.
- Valid RN License is required.
- Valid CPR Certification is required.
- Experience in measuring vital signs is preferred.
