The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to patients in various healthcare settings. This position is essential in promoting patient comfort and well-being, particularly in environments such as teaching hospitals, trauma centers, outpatient clinics, and medical-surgical units. The PCA assists with daily living activities under the supervision of healthcare professionals, ensuring that patients receive the necessary care and attention.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene tasks including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
• Help with mobility by supporting patients in walking or transferring from one location to another.
• Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes to nursing staff.
• Provide companionship and emotional support to patients.
• Assist with meal preparation and feeding as needed.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by adhering to hygiene standards.
• Document patient care activities accurately in accordance with facility protocols.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of patient care principles, particularly in settings such as Level I and Level II Trauma Centers.
• Familiarity with emergency medicine practices and protocols.
• Experience or knowledge in pediatric intensive care units (PICU) is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in outpatient clinic environments as well as medical-surgical units.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Compassionate demeanor with a commitment to providing high-quality care.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also being capable of working independently when necessary.
