About the position

The Pediatric Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides compassionate support to children with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or developmental delays in home and community settings. This role focuses on enhancing the quality of life for young clients and their families by assisting with daily living activities and ensuring their safety and emotional well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Assist children with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, tailored to their individual needs.
  • Prepare and provide nutritious meals that accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Support children with mobility and transfers, ensuring safety during movement.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, behavior changes, and progress, reporting any concerns to parents or supervising healthcare professionals.
  • Engage children in age-appropriate activities and therapeutic exercises to promote development and well-being.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support, fostering a positive and encouraging environment.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks related to the child's care, including organizing play areas and laundry.
  • Help children manage medications by providing reminders and ensuring adherence to prescribed regimens.
  • Collaborate with parents, healthcare providers, and educators to implement individualized care plans effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all safety protocols to protect the child's welfare.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; additional training in pediatric care is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs, preferred.
  • Valid CPR certification and driver's license.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and their families.
  • Compassionate, patient, and nurturing demeanor.
