About the position

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) role is designed for compassionate individuals dedicated to providing essential support to clients in various healthcare settings. This position focuses on enhancing the quality of life for clients by assisting with daily living activities, ensuring their comfort and safety, and promoting independence. The PCA will work in environments such as inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, and home care, and will be responsible for tasks that include personal hygiene assistance, mobility support, and companionship.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Support clients with mobility and transfers, ensuring their safety at all times.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and report any changes in the client's condition to the healthcare team.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a positive environment.
  • Help with meal preparation and feeding as needed, considering dietary restrictions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe living environment for clients by performing light housekeeping duties.
  • Assist with medication reminders and ensure adherence to prescribed treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop personalized care plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Transport client 1 to 2 times a week for errands.

Requirements

  • Experience in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), operating room (OR), or inpatient settings is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of emergency medicine principles and practices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical-surgical nursing practices will be beneficial.
  • Experience working in geriatrics or with elderly populations is a plus.
  • Understanding of the operations within a Level II Trauma Center or teaching hospital environment is desirable.
  • Ability to provide care in outpatient settings effectively.
  • Strong communication skills to interact compassionately with clients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining attention to detail.
