The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) position at Cleveland Clinic's Mercy Hospital focuses on providing compassionate care to oncology and hospice patients. The role involves assisting with various patient care tasks under the supervision of registered nurses, ensuring that patients' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs are met to enhance their quality of life. This position is integral to the 8M Medical Oncology & Hospice Unit, which caters to patients with serious health conditions, including cancer and end-of-life care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and patient weight.
  • Assist patients with personal care and activities of daily living.
  • Facilitate patient transfers and transport.
  • Perform pulse oximetry and point of care testing.
  • Assist with dressing changes and applying external monitoring devices.
  • Remove urinary Foley catheters as needed.
  • Report abnormal findings or changes in patients' conditions to an RN.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of patients' rooms.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman, Combat Medic, or Medical Service Technician is considered.

Nice-to-haves

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification if not already obtained.
