About the position

The Product Development Co-Op at Boston Beer Company is an entry-level position focused on assisting the Research Brewery with trial work and brewing activities. The role involves executing daily brewing functions, monitoring quality, and maintaining safe and sanitary conditions. This position provides hands-on experience in the brewing process and contributes to product quality and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the execution of trial work and brewing activities as instructed by the Research Brewer.
• Gather, weigh, and process raw ingredients according to recipe specifications.
• Monitor yeast health through daily cell counts.
• Clean and sanitize fermentation tanks.
• Pull and package samples for quality and sensory analysis.
• Clean and fill kegs, supporting CIP and sanitation for the keg filler.
• Collect and compile data for trial work and special projects.
• Design and complete a term project as reviewed by the Research Brewer.
• Promote high product quality within a professional work environment.
• Maintain Good Manufacturing Practices and overall brewery sanitation and safety.

Requirements

• Must be a student currently enrolled in Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, or Chemical Engineering.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Ability to commute daily to the Boston Brewery in Jamaica Plain, MA.
• Ability to work in a flexible and changing schedule.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Self-motivated with a constant focus on raising the bar and a high sense of urgency.
• Ability to identify problems, evaluate options, and support solutions.

Nice-to-haves

• Home brewing or other brewing experience is a plus.
