About the position

Heartland Panda Pediatrics is part of Heartland Community Health Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Heartland operates three clinics located in Lawrence, KS; a vibrant college town with an artistic community and culture like nowhere else in Kansas. Heartland is a rapidly growing community health center dedicated to true Integrated care and is searching for individuals who desire to serve all members of our community regardless of their current social status. Heartland serves a very diverse population that spans from indigent and under-served members in our community to the very affluent. We strive to provide accessible, continuous, compassionate, and excellent care that addresses all needs through primary care, mental and behavioral health, dental services, and much more. The Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary medical team of the health center, providing support to the Heartland Community Health Center (HCHC) medical providers with direct patient care, maintaining exam rooms and equipment, and assigned clerical duties. This position is responsible for patient intake, vital signs, phlebotomy, laboratory support and serves as a liaison between the front desk staff, the providers, and the nurses in the provision of care.

Responsibilities

  • Works in harmony with others, exhibits a positive attitude and commitment to the health center mission.
  • Consistent patient-centered, caring disposition is a must for this position.
  • Performs daily exam room inspection, ensuring supplies are adequately stocked for patient care.
  • Interviews patients to obtain medical information including list of current medications and allergies; obtains vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, pulse and blood pressure readings; Records information into EHR.
  • Performs procedures as directed by medical provider including but not limited to EKG, peak flows, ear lavage, minor procedures, dressing changes, vision and hearing screenings.
  • Administer vaccines and injections to patients.
  • Assists with laboratory procedures including, but not limited to backing up the phlebotomist, various dipsticks, urinalysis, hematocrit, glucose screening.
  • Assists medical providers with procedures, exams and treatment of patients.
  • Maintains exam rooms, keeping equipment clean, sterilized and rotated.
  • Maintains adequate supplies of linens, medical equipment, paper supplies needed for daily clinical operations.
  • Relieves other departments as indicated; provides coverage when necessary.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to professional certification, patient confidentiality pursuant to HIPAA, patient treatment & safety guidelines.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • BLS Certification required
  • Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant course training
  • Certificate of graduation and proof of certification.
