About the position

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner for an ongoing locums assignment in beautiful New Orleans, LA! This provider will be working providing 12-hour shift coverage for day and night coverage within our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) or Cardiac Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The unit is dedicated to Cardiac ICU with an active Cardiac Surgical program, including short-term mechanical circulatory support (ECMO), and the ability to care for complex medical patients across the age spectrum. The unit has 24/7 Advanced Practice Provider (APP) coverage, ensuring that patients receive continuous and comprehensive care. Coverage is expected to start as soon as the provider is credentialed, with shifts being 12 hours long, and the biggest coverage need being during nights and weekends. In this role, the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for the critical care management of pediatric CVICU patients, conducting bedside rounds in the morning and evening for handoff purposes. The responsibilities also include the removal of various lines and tubes such as Left Atrial/Right Atrial lines, Umbilical Artery/Catheter lines, and CT pacing wires, as well as sutures and staples. The provider will coordinate and assist with line placements and will play a crucial role in educating patients and their families on health maintenance and disease prevention. Collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals is essential to provide comprehensive care, and maintaining accurate patient records is a critical part of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Critical Care Management of Pediatric CVICU patients
  • Bedside rounds in AM and PM for handoff
  • Removal of LDS/s, RA/LA, UAC/UVS, CT Pacing Wires, Sutures/Staples
  • Coordination and assistance with line placement
  • Educate patients and families on health maintenance and disease prevention
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care
  • Maintain accurate patient records

Requirements

  • Strong background in pediatric Critical Care including PICU or CVICU experience
  • Proficiency in critical care procedures such as A-lines, C-lines, removal of wires, drains and tubes
  • Experience in critical care settings
  • Louisiana License (Required)
