About the position

The Pediatric Paraprofessional at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in supporting children with special needs in an inclusive early learning environment. This position involves assisting teachers and therapists in providing direct support to children, helping them develop essential skills while maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment. The paraprofessional will work closely with a dedicated team to ensure the overall function of the department and contribute to the well-being of the children and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to children under the supervision of educational and therapeutic staff.
  • Assist with self-care routines including diapering, feeding, toilet training, and hand washing.
  • Prepare materials and equipment, and organize the classroom and storage areas.
  • Substitute for teachers and/or paraprofessionals when they are absent.
  • Participate in therapy sessions and parent conferences as appropriate.
  • Help maintain a clean and hygienic environment in the classroom.
  • Collaborate with the director, manager, and/or social worker to support individual child and family needs.
  • Train and educate students, interns, volunteers, and family members.
  • Maintain professional relationships with co-workers and assist with their duties.
  • Communicate effectively and address issues privately.
  • Return calls and emails promptly and be punctual for scheduled hours.
  • Utilize computer access confidentially and appropriately, following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Provide quality patient care considering the special needs of the patients.
  • Adapt to constant changes in schedule and environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Communication skills
  • Technologically competent

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of disabilities and child and family development
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1 to 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
