About the position

The Pediatric Per Diem Dietitian at UC Davis Health System provides medical nutrition therapy for both adult and pediatric patients in various settings, including inpatient and outpatient areas. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to conduct nutrition assessments, diagnoses, interventions, and evaluations of patient responses to nutrition care. The Dietitian also coordinates nutrition services with patient food services, participates in departmental committees, and contributes to the dietetic internship program by acting as a preceptor and teaching classes. The position emphasizes maintaining professional competence and participating in compliance and performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical nutrition therapy for adult and pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient areas.
  • Conduct nutrition assessments, diagnoses, and interventions.
  • Evaluate patient responses to nutrition interventions.
  • Coordinate nutrition services with patient food services and the patient care team.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team and department committees and projects.
  • Act as a preceptor for dietetic interns and teach assigned classes.
  • Participate in promotional or community activities for UC Davis Health.
  • Engage in compliance and performance improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or eligible to sit for the RD/RDN exam.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in food and nutrition/dietetics from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of a Didactic Program in Dietetics and supervised practice experience accredited by ACEND.
  • Registered with the Commission of Dietetic Registration and maintain registration through continuing education.
  • Strong academic and applied background in clinical nutrition.
  • Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy principles, including enteral and parenteral nutrition support.
  • Experience with computers for daily tasks, including word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with peers, patients, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Effective teaching skills as a preceptor and in group classes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Work experience in a large teaching hospital or academic medical center.
  • Experience teaching and supervising dietetic interns or students.
  • More than one year of acute care experience.
  • Pediatric work experience or extensive pediatric clinical nutrition training.
  • Experience using electronic medical records.
