About the position

The Peer Educator Specialist/Outreach role involves providing support and education to individuals affected by HIV. The position requires collaboration with healthcare staff to assist newly diagnosed clients in navigating the healthcare system and accessing necessary services. The Peer Educator will offer peer support, conduct client orientations, and ensure clients maintain their medication enrollment while participating in ongoing training.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to clients affected by HIV.
  • Collaborate with primary care and case management staff to identify newly diagnosed clients.
  • Educate new clients on accessing core and support services.
  • Assist with initial client intake and paperwork.
  • Accompany clients to initial appointments for medical care and other services.
  • Make reminder calls to clients for medical appointments to reduce no-shows.
  • Participate in staff meetings and ongoing training sessions.
  • Ensure HIV positive clients maintain enrollment in medication services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of HIV and its impact on individuals.
  • Experience in mentoring or peer support roles.
  • Valid CPR Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in community outreach programs.
  • Familiarity with the Ryan White service delivery system.
