About the position

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS) plays a crucial role in supporting individuals experiencing substance use disorders by leveraging their lived experiences to provide hope and recovery guidance. This position involves direct engagement with parents and caregivers, helping them navigate recovery pathways, develop recovery plans, and access community resources. The PRSS is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that empowers families to achieve their recovery goals through advocacy, education, and personal responsibility modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Draw upon lived experience to provide hope and recovery support to individuals with substance use disorders.
  • Offer encouragement, support, outreach, service linkages, and advocacy to parents/caregivers.
  • Assist parents/caregivers in gaining skills and resources necessary for initiating and maintaining recovery.
  • Develop and sustain a supportive social and physical environment for recovery.
  • Empower parents/caregivers to make self-determined choices about their recovery pathways.
  • Collaborate with parents/caregivers to create a culturally competent Recovery Plan with measurable objectives.
  • Attend Family Team Meetings and participate in case consultations as required.
  • Educate parents/caregivers on navigating treatment and recovery support systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • At least 2 continuous years of sustained recovery or 2 years of practicing recovery principles as a family member affected by substance use.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of addictions preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in behavioral health or social services.
  • Familiarity with community resources for recovery support.
